From Personal Grief to Technological Innovation
My journey into assistive technology is deeply personal. My mother battled Huntington’s Disease, a rare and progressive degenerative neurological disorder. While it leaves the mind mostly intact, it gradually removes the ability to move or use one’s limbs. When she was diagnosed at the age of 38, I decided to pause my STEM studies at college. From the ages of 16 to 23, I dedicated seven years to being her full-time carer.
She subsequently spent seven years in a care home until she passed away in October 2025. Watching her struggle required me to become strong, positive, and resilient. During my visits in her final years, the illness had stolen her ability to interact with the television, radio, or games. I found myself inspired by Stephen Hawking’s speech synthesis technology. I began exploring how we could bridge the gap for those with locked-in syndrome or anyone unable to use standard controllers.
While researching, I discovered a significant barrier to entry. Existing hardware and software are research-level tools. They are incredibly expensive, often ranging from £2,000 to £10,000. Furthermore, they are rarely "plug & play." Operating them often requires a computer scientist or someone proficient in Linux, Python, or C++, which is a skillset that care home staff generally lack.
Player 1 Mindcare was born from this gap in the market. Inspired by my mum, my mission is to develop new assistive care technology into a commercial product. We aim to deliver a complete support service for configuration and maintenance, starting in the UK and eventually expanding globally.

People grieve in different ways. I chose to channel my grief into action. My mother’s quality of life toward the end was difficult, and I know this technology can improve the lives of others.
As Huntington's is a genetic disorder, I am intimately close to the problem this solution solves, potentially for my own future or that of my children. Beyond personal motivation, I possess the necessary technical and leadership skills to drive this disruptive assistive care innovation.
I previously worked for four years as the Head of Technical Support for a London tech startup called Smart Spaces. We managed smart infrastructure for top sites, including The Walkie Talkie, The Gherkin, and 22 Bishopsgate, serving major property managers like GPE, JLL, Workspace and Savills. (About Smart Spaces)
I am now expanding my business acumen through networking, public speaking, and mastering the intricacies of patent law, finance, and user experience (UX) design.
I am currently participating in the University of Greenwich Generator Enterprise Competition. I am hopeful about winning the £5000 investment prize and the title of entrepreneur of the year 2026 to validate the business further.
